For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have multiple openings for faculty selected for Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Science Visiting Faculty Program (VFP).

The Visiting Faculty Program (VFP) seeks to increase the research competitiveness of faculty members and their students at institutions historically underrepresented in the research community in order to expand the workforce vital to the Department of Energy (DOE) mission areas.  It is intended to support the professional development of current faculty members who have the desire to increase the competitiveness of their own independent research at their home institution through scientific research collaborations with DOE laboratory scientists.

Individuals who want to be considered for these positions must first be selected into the Office of Science Visiting Faculty Program.  Individuals may apply at http://science.energy.gov/wdts/vfp//.The website will provide information regarding the program’s requirements, length of assignment, benefits, and deadlines.

 Essential Duties
- Collaborate with a LLNL research staff on a research project of mutual interest. 
- Maintain personal health insurance coverage for the duration of the appointment.
- Complete the full 10 week program.
- Complete the entrance and exit surveys through the online system provided at the beginning and the end of the assignment
- Participate in professional scientific meetings at the request of the LLNL research advisor.
- Make an oral or poster presentation on the outcome of the research activities.
- Complete and submit a research project report.
 
Qualifications
- Notification of acceptance into the Office of Science Visiting Faculty Program.
- Must be a full-time faculty member at an accredited U.S. degree granting, postsecondary, institution of higher education historically underrepresented in the U.S. research community.
- Must be a full-time faculty member in an area of physics, chemistry, biology (non-medical), mathematics, engineering, environmental sciences, materials sciences, or computer or computational sciences.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Anticipated Clearance Level:  None.

 

Note:  This is a Faculty Employee appointment. This assignment is for a full-time, temporary (10 weeks) assignment during the summer sponsored and managed by the DOE Office of Science’s Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) in collaboration with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
