For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

The Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division has an opportunity for a teacher to engage in a collaborative research and work-study assignment of mutual interest to further their teaching or research goals.  This position is aligned with the Nuclear Forensics Summer Internship program run by the Glenn T. Seaborg Institute. The goal is to facilitate the training of the next generation of nuclear scientists to solve critical national security problems in the field of nuclear forensics, actinide science, and environmental radiochemistry.  This is approximately an eight-week assignment.
Essential Duties
- Work with engineers, or scientists to engage in research projects in the disciplines of actinide science, radiochemistry, isotopic analysis, radiation detection, and nuclear engineering in order to strengthen the pipeline for future scientific disciplines.
- Under limited direction and supervision will conduct research in assigned area.
- Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide advanced technical support to scientists in scientific research and development projects.
- Communicate work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must be a continuing teacher affiliated at an accredited institution.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Demonstrated academic achievement in the fields of physics, chemistry, geology and geochemistry, nuclear engineering, chemical engineering or environmental sciences.                                                                                                          
- Experience applying basic scientific principles to solve technical problems. 
- Demonstrated effective communication skills.
- Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
- Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a team environment.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Security Clearance:  None required.


Note:   This is approximately an eight-week Temporary Faculty Scholar appointment.  This assignment is typically a full-time position during the summer academic break.
